Prior to her hiatus Becky Lynch was one of the top faces in WWE, and she recently made her surprise return at the SummerSlam pay-per-view where she defeated Bianca Belair to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion. It seems that WWE will be going in an interesting direction with Lynch as it was reported that current plans call for her to work as a heel moving forward.

Mike Johnson reported on PWInsider Elite that the idea for Becky Lynch to turn heel was Vince McMahon’s and he was the one who pitched the idea.

It’s also being reported that this was not the original idea for her return, as Becky was originally supposed to return in October. Sasha Banks being unable to perform is what led to WWE changing plans and Vince McMahon decided “that’s what I want.”

After challenging Bianca Belair to an impromptu title match at SummerSlam Becky Lynch managed to defeat the champion in a matter of seconds to win the title. The title change has been criticized by some people in the wrestling community, including a WWE Hall of Famer, and you can get more on that here.
