WrestleMania 39 has come and gone and there was a lot of speculation regarding the top matches for the Show of Shows this year. It’s certainly no big secret that WWE was hoping to book The Rock vs. Roman Reigns on the Grandest Stage of Them All, but it was Cody Rhodes who ended up challenging Reigns at Mania.

Dave Meltzer recently discussed The Rock’s situation with WWE on Wrestling Observer Radio, and he noted that The Great One left the door open for an appearance at WrestleMania 40, but he’s said to be far from committed to the event.

“Reigns had pretty much gone through everyone at the top tier on the roster, and with the exception of GUNTHER or, of course, The Rock. Dwayne Johnson, when he turned down this year due to schedule, did leave a crack in the door open about possibly doing Philadelphia at WrestleMania 40 next year, but that was far from a commitment and certainly nothing anyone should count on happening. There didn’t appear to be another new challenger on the horizon.”

During WrestleMania weekend The Rock posted a video message showing support for The Bloodline, and he teased that maybe he would see them in person soon. It’s been a long time since The Rock has stepped into the ring, but it seems that he hasn’t officially hung up his boots for good, so it will be interesting to see if he does return to WWE at some point in the future. Stay tuned for updates.
