Cody Rhodes recently won the 30 man Royal Rumble match and he’s currently set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39. Sami Zayn is also set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, but he will be fighting for the belt at Elimination Chamber later this month.

Sami’s storyline with The Bloodline has been one of the most talked about angles in years, and it sounds like that’s something WWE took into consideration heading into Raw this week.

On Monday night Cody Rhodes cut a passionate promo that was interrupted by Paul Heyman, and Heyman made things quite personal when he told Cody that Roman Reigns was the son his father Dusty Rhodes always wanted. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that people in WWE knew they had to do something as they felt they wanted to make sure Cody’s angle with Roman didn’t get overshadowed by Roman’s storyline with Sami.

“This was done because they were well aware of how hot the Sami Zayn thing is and it was imperative to not have this WrestleMania main event angle feel secondary. So they knew going in that they had to do something. And they did.”

What was your reaction to the Cody/Heyman segment on Raw? Sound off in the comments below.
