Last year at WrestleMania 38, Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and he’s been holding both belts ever since. The title situation has left Monday Night Raw without a world championship, but it seems that there was talk of creating a new belt during WrestleMania season.

It’s certainly no big secret that WWE was hoping to book The Rock vs. Roman Reigns for WrestleMania 39 this year. However, that match won’t be happening as WWE is moving forward with plans for Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns.

During a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer discussed the title situation and noted that there was talk of WWE creating a new championship for the first night of WrestleMania 39 if Rock vs. Reigns was added to the card.

“If it was Roman and The Rock, they were gonna create a championship on Saturday night that Cody probably would have ended up winning. It was Cody, Drew (McIntyre) or (Seth) Rollins that was gonna come out of that one. Because they wanna go back to two titles.”

One way or another it will be interesting to see how the title situation is handled after WrestleMania 39 and whether or not the belts get split again somehow. Stay tuned for updates.
