roman reigns

Tonight’s episode of WWE Monday Night Raw is set to take place from the Ford Center in Evansville, IN, and the show is going to kick off with a big announcement from Roman Reigns. WWE has been hyping up a big SummerSlam announcement from Roman, and everyone’s been trying to figure out what it will be.

Many fans assumed that Roman would be challenging John Cena due to the fact that Cena is now a free agent, but it was recently reported that Roman’s SummerSlam opponent will not be the 16 time WWE World Champion. As for who Roman’s SummerSlam opponent will be, it doesn’t sound like we’ll be finding out tonight.

Sportskeeda is reporting that the plan for Roman’s big SummerSlam announcement on Raw tonight is to have Roman make his way to the ring with the intention of declaring that he wants a Universal Title shot at the pay-per-view. Braun Strowman will then return and interrupt him to set up a match for Great Balls of Fire.

Original plans for Roman’s announcement reportedly called for him to be interrupted by Finn Balor after declaring that he wants a Universal Title shot at SummerSlam. The segment was then supposed to lead to a number 1 contenders match at Great Balls of Fire.

When Braun Strowman was first injured, it caused WWE to shift their creative plans in a major way. Now that he’s healed up sooner than expected, the company is changing plans once again. If Braun does indeed return on Raw, look for WWE to sell the fact that he returned much quicker than expected, as they originally announced that he could be out for up to 6 months.

It’s been rumored for months that WWE is planning to have Braun Strowman challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title at SummerSlam, but it’s now being reported that nothing has been finalized and Seth Rollins and Finn Balor could be added to the match to make it a fatal 4-way.

Roman Reigns isn’t expected to get his Universal Title shot until WrestleMania 34 next year in New Orleans.
