Brock appeared on Raw the next night, then he disappeared for a little while, and fans were left to wonder who would end up challenging Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title next.
Raw General Manager Kurt Angle set up a fatal five-way match for the Extreme Rules pay-per-view a few weeks ago, and Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, Finn Balor and Samoa Joe all faced off for the right to challenge Brock Lesnar at Great Balls of Fire. In the end it was Samoa Joe who got the victory, and he’s been bringing the pain to Brock Lesnar on Raw ever since.
Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar managed to build up some major hype for their title match, and anticipation was at an all time high going into Great Balls of Fire on Sunday night.
Joe and Lesnar didn’t make their way to the ring until about 10:55pm, and Samoa Joe showed absolutely no fear of Brock Lesnar. As Paul Heyman was introducing Brock, Joe jumped him from behind and took him to the outside. Joe quickly put Brock Lesnar through the announce table, and he made a huge statement before the match even started.
Brock struggled to get back in the ring, but he did, and the referee called for the bell. Joe went right after Lesnar and absolutely dominated him. Lesnar fought back, but Joe got him into the corner and hit him with several strikes to the face.
Joe tried to lock in the Coquina Clutch while Brock was standing, but Brock broke it up by driving Joe into the turnbuckle, and then he proceeded to take Samoa Joe to Suplex City as he hit Joe with a German Suplex. He followed up with two more then Joe held onto the ropes, and Joe grabbed the referee, then hit Lesnar with a low blow while the referee wasn’t looking.
Joe locked in the Coquina Clutch as Lesnar was trying to get back on his feet, but Brock fought back.
Brock managed to get the momentum back on his side, and he took Samoa Joe to Suplex City once again. Lesnar went for the F5, but Joe reversed it and locked in the Coquina Clutch while Brock was standing, and Joe brought Brock down to his knees.
Brock Lesnar then stood up and hit Joe with the F5 for the win.
After the match Joe got back to his feet as Lesnar made his way up the ramp. They stared at each other to end the show.
