We were just sailing along after Battleground when out of the blue a dream match gets dropped in our laps. Sudden surprises like this are some of the reasons why we love pro wrestling so much because we really never know what’s going to happen next.

Daniel Bryan booked a #1 contender match for Jinder Mahal’s WWE Championship between John Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura. It was a rather shocking turn after Super Cena just came out and told The Modern Day Maharaja that he was challenging him for the WWE Championship. Most people just assumed they were going to give John the match, but opportunities are earned on SmackDown Live.

There are a lot of questions surrounding the subject at this point which is no new thing for WWE. This match could always result in some kind of bad finish where a triple threat match is booked for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam which would certainly go along with WWE’s current multiple-person match trend.

But Dave Meltzer opened up on the subject during a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio and speculated a singles match might be on the horizon for The Biggest Party Of The Summer.

“I still think the first Cena/Nakamura should have been a lot bigger deal than it is. But you know what it doesn’t surprise me either,” Melzter said. “And perhaps it’s just one of those things where they just wanna do it it get to so they can do it. It’d be interesting to see who wins — probably Cena thought. I mean I think that when it comes down to on SummerSlam if your choices are Jinder Mahal against Cena or Jinder Mahal against Nakamura I think Cena wins that argument in Vince McMahon’s eyes. Unless they’re trying to keep Cena away from the championship until maybe WrestleMania which is possible too.”

Bryan Alvarez brought up the fact that whoever faces Jinder could still lose and Meltzer said, “yeah there’s a lot of things they could do.”

So, in the end, there are a lot of things they could do. But it looks like Cena’s hand could be the one raised after his first match with Shinsuke Nakamura. Of course, WrestleMania plans might be the ultimate reason if they go with The King Of Strong Style.

If WWE does let these two go at it to a legit finish on SmackDown, they should allow them to have a twenty-two-minute barn burner. Afterward, WWE could hold a special appearance for Road Dogg so all of his haters could get in line and apologize to him.
