Roman Reigns won the WWE Universal Title at the Payback pay-per-view in September of 2020, and he recently became the longest reigning Universal Champion of all time. It was announced a few weeks ago that Roman Reigns would defend his Universal Championship against Seth Rollins at the Royal Rumble, and the two Superstars opened the show on Saturday night.

Roman Reigns looked proud as he made his entrance, but his mood quickly changed when Seth Rollins made his entrance to The Shield’s music dressed in riot gear. The Tribal Chief was noticeably thrown off by the entrance and throughout the match the former Shield brothers punished one another.

Seth referenced The Shield when he hit Roman with a Shield Bomb through the table, and there were several near falls throughout the match. Reigns got the upper hand with a spear on the outside and he rolled Rollins back into the ring. He went for another spear and Rollins countered with the Pedigree, but Roman kicked out. The move got a huge reaction out of the fans who chanted “this is awesome!”

Roman Reigns followed up with a spear and Rollins laughed at him while saying, “I’ll always love you!” The Tribal Chief looked frustrated as Rollins reached for a Shield style fist bump. Roman responded by putting him in the guillotine, but Rollins grabbed the ropes.

Referee Charles Robinson counted to five and Roman Reigns continued to choke Rollins out so the ref called for the bell. Roman Reigns shouted, “he deserves this,” as the fans booed heavily. After the match fans loudly chanted “Roman sucks!” Seth Rollins struggled to get back up as Roman Reigns grabbed a chair from the ringside area.

Roman Reigns then hit Rollins in the back with the steel chair and mimicked the same things Rollins did when he turned on The Shield. Roman continued to destroy Seth with the chair as the fans booed.
