Last week Tony Khan shocked the world when he announced that CM Punk’s AEW contract had been terminated, and as soon as the news broke fans immediately started talking about the possibility of Punk returning to WWE.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the decision will be up to Nick Khan and Triple H, and the ultimate decision could be made by Vince McMahon depending on when he returns from back surgery.

It was noted that even though the circumstances between Punk and WWE have been negative in the past, the landscape is different now as WWE signing Cody Rhodes showed how much getting a top AEW talent can help the company. If CM Punk were to sign a new deal with WWE he would not be given the same power he had in AEW.

FOX previously pushed for WWE to bring CM Punk back, but Vince McMahon turned that idea down. However, circumstances are different compared to a few years ago when Vince McMahon decided not to use him. CM Punk’s return to AEW was big and due to his ability to draw money it’s possible he could be given another chance.

It was also noted that CM Punk hasn’t given any indication that he’s done with wrestling, so unless he decides to never wrestle again then this probably won’t be the end of his career.
