Sami Zayn has been the talk of the wrestling world as of late and on Saturday night he challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at the Elimination Chamber premium live event. During the match Sami was able to hit The Tribal Chief with the Helluva Kick, but unfortunately for Sami he didn’t end up winning the gold.

The Helluva Kick has come in handy for Sami Zayn throughout his career, and Zayn recently explained to Zak Ralph of Love Wrestling that he got the name from an old WCW Magazine.

“I don’t think I’ve ever told it in an interview, but if you want it, here it is — when I was a kid I had a WCW Magazine and I was reading some match results. And it said ‘Chris Jericho defeated Syxx’, or maybe it was the other way around, with a Helluva Kick.”

“It was written ‘helluva’ like that, so I thought it was a type of kick. I told this story to Excalibur, who now does commentary on AEW every Wednesday, but I told him this story one time at Denny’s after a PWG show. We started calling the running Yakuza kick in the corner that I would do at the time, we started calling it the Helluva Kick. So that’s actually the real reason of that name.”
