Back in 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way that the wrestling business operates and the stars of WWE quickly had to get used to performing without a live audience. The fans can often make or break a WWE show which meant that changes had to be made due to the absence of the fans.

2020 was also a huge year for the career of Roman Reigns as he finally turned heel and aligned himself with Paul Heyman. Their alliance is still going strong and during an appearance on Tetragrammaton with Rick Rubin, Paul Heyman noted that he learns just as much from Roman Reigns as Roman learns from him.

Paul Heyman also explained that Roman Reigns viewed the pandemic era in a way that no one else did, so he approached things differently while working without an audience.

“He is forward-thinking. I gotta keep up with him. I’m challenged every day to keep up with the progressive approach that he takes to our industry. He looked at pandemic WWE with a digital audience in a manner that no one else did.”

“When there’s no audience, you can whisper, and you can start doing movie scenes. We can bring a sophistication to this product. We can upgrade the product. We can elevate the product. We can bring better acting to this product. We can do scenes instead of angles. … We can literally draw an audience — attract a crowd — to see the next chapter of the story play out, and it doesn’t even have to be a match anymore.”

Roman Reigns will be returning to WWE Friday Night SmackDown during this week’s show. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
