Stephanie McMahon shocked the world a few weeks ago when she announced that she was taking a leave of absence from WWE, and since then the story has taken an interesting turn.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE did tell a reporter working for their website negative things about Stephanie McMahon. It was noted that they knocked her job performance a few weeks after she took a leave of absence and that, “they were clearly attempting to get that story out.”

Business Insider recently released a story claiming that Vince McMahon pushed Stephanie out, but that’s not the case as Stephanie left on her own. Due to the burial it’s being said that odds of Stephanie returning have greatly diminished, but time heals all wounds. WWE rarely goes out of their way to bury people when they part ways with the company and it was noted that they were mum when co-Presidents George Barrios and Michelle Wilson were fired.

Those close to the situation have noted that Stephanie McMahon had been considering leaving for some time, and if she does come back it would be in a different role. It was also noted that no one would say anything bad about Stephanie on her way out with the belief being that if Vince found out he would get rid of them, but that’s the opposite of what happened as the stories were clearly done with Vince’s approval.

The company planted the story that WWE’s brand partnership revenue was behind UFC, and the quote given was, “We weren’t seeing that growth. When someone is moved out of a company, it’s usually the result of something not working. WWE took stronger control of that a few months ago.”

Stephanie had been thinking about getting out for months and Vince McMahon was apparently surprised when she told him. The unanswered question is why WWE has decided to publicly bury Stephanie. It was noted that Stephanie McMahon is still on WWE’s Board of Directors and she could have easily left that position, but she didn’t, and no one forced her out.
