For the last few years Matt Riddle has had a consistent presence on WWE programming up until last week when he was released from his contract. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Matt Riddle wasn’t released due to budget cuts, but because of incidents that took place outside of the ring. It was also noted that Riddle raised the ire of the veterans from day one by making comments about how Goldberg wasn’t a good wrestler, and saying that he could beat Roman Reigns in a real fight.

Several people in the company noted that Matt Riddle probably would have been among WWE’s top stars, but due to all of the negative things that have come out he wasn’t going to get pushed beyond mid-level at this point. It was also noted that Riddle’s fortunes fell after RK-Bro had to split up due to Randy Orton’s injury, and Riddle went on to fail his second drug test which resulted in a 60 day suspension.

Matt Riddle reportedly had backstage heat with management for going off script when he put Randy Orton over in a live television interview by acknowledging how much pain he was in before WWE shot the injury angle. While the promo was praised for being real it was not what was originally scripted for him.

It’s being said that since Riddle was released last week there’s been interest from a number of pro wrestling and MMA companies. Stay tuned for more updates on Matt Riddle’s next move as they become available.
