Tournaments seem to be all the rage nowadays in WWE. Last summer TJ Perkins became the Cruiserweight Champion when he won the Cruiserweight Classic, and earlier this year Tyler Bate won a tournament to become the first ever WWE United Kingdom Champion.
This summer the women of wrestling will get their chance to show the world what they can do, as 32 wrestlers are set to compete in WWE’s upcoming all women’s tournament.
PWInsider reports that filming for the tournament is set to begin in July, and although it will likely be filmed at Full Sail University, the idea of filming the tournament at a different venue has not been ruled out. The current plan is for the tournament to culminate with a live WWE Network special that would air on Tuesday, August 29.
Talents are already reportedly going through the necessary background checks and tests that wrestlers are normally required to pass before working with WWE.
Women’s wrestling in WWE has come a very long way over the past few years, so this tournament will surely be a must see event for wrestling fans this summer. It should be interesting to see who WWE brings in for the tournament, and how many names who aren’t already signed to WWE end up sticking around after all is said and done.
