AEW has come a long way over the last few years and Cody Rhodes was one of the key figures that helped launch the company. The American Nightmare was also featured as one of the top stars on AEW programming from the second the company launched, but fans turned against him near the end of his run.

Rhodes was on the receiving end of some negative backlash from a portion of the fans during the last few months of his AEW tenure which has led to a lot of questions about his AEW departure.

The former TNT Champion recently stated on Twitter that he didn’t leave due to issues with The Elite or CM Punk and he added that his departure was more of a personal issue as he wanted to go for the “big one.” A fan recently asked Cody if the personal issue had anything to do with him getting booed by the AEW fans, but Cody shot that idea down when he offered the following response:

“Ha no – I was a heel, the fans were amazing. It ain’t ever on the fans.”

Cody Rhodes picked up some major momentum after returning to WWE at WrestleMania 38 where he defeated Seth Rollins. Unfortunately he is currently sidelined due to injury, and it’s not clear when he might return to WWE programming. Stay tuned for updates.
