According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, people close to Rey Mysterio are saying that they think it’s only a matter of time before Rey returns to WWE.
The big question about Rey’s future right now is whether or not Rey will be part of the roster for Lucha Underground season three. The new season has already been confirmed by LU and production is set to begin in March.
Rey Mysterio is currently having problems with AAA because they’re behind on paying him. Konnan recently mentioned on his podcast that Rey won’t return to AAA because of the money issue.
It was also noted that Rey Mysterio is now open to a part time WWE schedule. This is a big change because Rey had no intentions of returning when he left. The fact that he’s now considering the idea is said to “speak volumes” about his current situation.
Back in October of 2015 Rey spoke to the Gorilla Position Podcast about a possible WWE return in regards to which he said “never say never.”
“Never say never. I didn’t leave on bad terms. There was no dispute or bad intention on me leaving. So, if there is an opportunity down the road and both parties agree to it, why not.” Mysterio said.
So it sounds like the door is open if Rey is indeed interested in returning.
