We’re only a few months away from WrestleMania season and this year it’s set to kick off with the Royal Rumble in Phoenix, Arizona on February 6th, 2027.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select is reporting that there have been internal discussions within WWE about potentially moving the date for the Royal Rumble back two weeks to February 20th, 2027.
A source noted that the idea centered around the opportunity to get tremendous exposure for the event during Super Bowl weekend as the event is being broadcast on ESPN for the first time.
The theory is that ESPN could be promoting their programming throughout the lead up to Super Bowl weekend, including the Royal Rumble, which could potentially air the following weekend.
However, it’s being said that WWE decided against the idea for two reasons. The first reason is that although the advertising exposure would be significant, moving the event would force the company to make other changes to their calendar structure. The second reason is that Phoenix, AZ is set to host the 2027 NBA All-Star Weekend from February 19th through the 21st. With those factors in mind WWE decided to stick with February 6th for the date.
