It’s not easy being a wrestling fan. Every single day us wrestling fans have to endure criticism from every angle. Most of us have to talk about wrestling on the internet because well if you talk about it in the real world, you’re going to get made fun of. Despite the fact that wrestling fans have to endure so much hate we still stand by the sport of professional wrestling because we enjoy it. With that being said, if we never heard these 5 things ever again, we would be totally ok with it.

#5 – All Wrestling Fans Live In Their Parent’s Basement

basement

For some reason most people automatically assume that if you’re a wrestling fan that means you’re just some fat guy with acne who lives in their parent’s basement. The fact of the matter is, that would be awesome. We wouldn’t have to pay bills, mom would do our laundry and we could probably just use up all the gas in dad’s car without paying for our own. But that’s just not going to happen.

We can’t speak for everyone but we know that we don’t live in our parent’s basement. As much as we would love to have our parents pay our bills, we joined the real world a long time ago and it’s terrifying. This common misconception about wrestling fans is just kind of silly. I watch wrestling on my own television that I bought myself and I cook my own damn pizza rolls while I watch dammit!

#4 – “You Still Watch That?”

stunner10

At one point or another just about everyone is a wrestling fan. While most kids are growing up they find it fun and start to watch regularly, but as they grow up a lot of people grow out of it. Some of us however never grow out of it.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked into a conversation about old school wrestling thinking it’s totally ok to join in. I then start talking about modern wrestling and everyone looks at me like I have three heads because they used to watch wrestling and that’s ok, but I still watch wrestling and apparently, that’s not ok at all.

Yes, I still watch wrestling. No, I’m not a little kid anymore. Yes, I guess from an outsider’s perspective it is a little silly but no, that’s not going to stop me from watching.

#3 – “Wrestling is lame. You should watch UFC.”

foley2

Although quite a few wrestling fans watch UFC and other MMA shows, it doesn’t appeal to all of us. I’m not at all bashing UFC or MMA in any way, shape or form but something about it just doesn’t click with me. A wrestling match has the peaks and valleys which are created by the drama of a story being told. But a MMA fight could end with just one single punch which doesn’t leave much room for drama.

Another common misconception is that wrestlers are pussies compared to MMA fighters which simply isn’t true. Like we said earlier, a MMA match can be over in a matter of seconds but a wrestling match has to continue no matter what. Several MMA fighters who attempted to make the jump to professional wrestling have said that wrestling is a lot harder than MMA. There’s no denying how tough MMA fighters are and that’s not what we’re trying to say. All we’re trying to say is don’t think for a second that wrestlers aren’t just as tough.

Dan Severn has gone on record saying that professional wrestling is harder than MMA:

“I’ve been hurt far worse in the professional wrestling industry than I have been in all of my cage matches.”

King Mo who signed a contract with TNA a few years ago says it best in the video below:

#2 – Any Conversation Involving The Words IWC, Mark or Smark

butthurt

This is a battle which is commonly fought between wrestling fans themselves. First of all let’s get this out of the way, for anyone that doesn’t know, IWC stands for Internet Wrestling Community. You would think at first glance that it sounds like something friendly due to the word community but somewhere along the lines ignorance took over and it’s now used as an insult. The truth is we talk about wrestling on the internet because people don’t like to talk about wrestling in the real world.

Most wrestling fans just automatically assume that any other fan who prefers guys like Dean Ambrose, CM Punk and Daniel Bryan to guys like John Cena and Randy Orton doesn’t have real taste and they’re part of the IWC so their opinion doesn’t matter. Personally we think the term IWC in general is stupid as all hell because we’re not an IWC, we’re just wrestling fans. But if you really want to go there, any fan who talks about wrestling on the internet is part of the IWC even the guy who throws out IWC as an insult. If you talk about wrestling on the internet on any platform then you are the IWC. Just accept it.

Now for anyone who doesn’t know a “smark is what’s called a smart mark” which is someone that reads about wrestling on the internet and supposedly knows what’s going on backstage. What we want to know is, how is this even an insult in 2015? It’s 2015 not 1994, every wrestling fan reads the internet. Hell WWE even incorporates internet gossip into their storylines now. There really aren’t any casual fans left when it comes to professional wrestling. Listen to the reactions of the crowds that attend Monday Night Raw. Listen to the things they say and try to tell yourself with a straight face that the people buying tickets are casual fans and they don’t read about wrestling on the internet. Good luck with that.

You can do away with the terms IWC, mark and smark. We’re all marks, deal with it.

#1 – Wrestling Is Fake

You can tell us that wrestling is fake all day, but it’s still real to us DAMMIT! Yes, we get it. Wrestling is a predetermined sport or as Vince McMahon has come to call it, sports entertainment.

Wrestling may be predetermined, but don’t think for one second that the performers in the ring aren’t putting their lives on the line every single time they step through those ropes. We dare anyone who wants to rant about how fake wrestling is to jump off a 20 foot ladder and land on an announce table. That experience would quickly change their mind about the definition of the word fake.

Wrestling is a TV show just like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead. People don’t call those shows fake when in all reality if you break it down, those shows are on a whole different level of fake in comparison to professional wrestling. When compared to wrestling those shows are super fake (I don’t know, I just made that one up, super fake though, it’s kind of catchy).

Although the moves and outcomes may be predetermined, the wrestlers still have to perform them and they do this 300 plus nights a year. If you think that these guys have an easy job you should probably try falling flat on your back from an elevated surface for 20 minutes straight 5 days a week and then come back and tell us how easy you think their job is.

To become a wrestler you need a lot of determination and a strong threshold for pain. You can tell us it’s fake all day long but at the end of the day you look more ignorant for telling us professional wrestling is fake than we do for defending  it.
