Last year Matt and Jeff Hardy set the wrestling world on fire when they introduced fans to the Broken Universe via Impact Wrestling. Segments such as The Final Deletion and Delete or Decay became quite popular and fans all over the world couldn’t stop themselves from chanting “DELETE” at wrestling events.

The brothers were planning on signing a new deal with Impact Wrestling, but things didn’t work out and they decided to pursue other options. As soon as Jeff and Matt Hardy parted ways with Impact, the company started sending out cease and desist letters regarding the Broken Matt Hardy gimmick and all things related to the Broken Universe.

After a short stint with ROH, The Hardys returned to WWE at WrestleMania 33 and won the Raw Tag Team Titles, but they aren’t “broken” as they’ve reverted back to their Team Xtreme gimmick.

Matt Hardy has been throwing in references to the Broken Matt Hardy character over the past few weeks, but he’s been downplaying his mannerisms and his voice. Hopefully that’s all going to change in the future.

Dave Meltzer noted on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that the current plan is to use the Broken Matt Hardy gimmick in WWE. The delay is that WWE will have to make a deal with Anthem that allows them to use the gimmick and the deal hasn’t been worked out yet.

There’s no guarantee that the Broken Matt Hardy character will appear on WWE programming, as it all comes down to what happens when the company tries to work out a deal with Anthem, and if it doesn’t happen it will mean that the two sides couldn’t agree to terms.

The Hardys have been dropping hints of the Broken Universe as of late, and the plan is not to do the Team Xtreme gimmick long term. Matt Hardy will likely continue teasing the Broken Matt Hardy character in the weeks to come and if negotiations with Anthem work out the teases will build up to a storyline that will introduce the WWE Universe to the Broken Universe.
