Over the last few years many familiar faces were released from WWE including Erick Rowan. For years Rowan had been a regular on WWE programming, but the company decided to cut ties with him 2020.

During a recent appearance on the Heated Shenanigans Podcast, Erick Rowan opened up about his release and he made it clear that he puts the blame on himself for anything that might not have worked out during his time with WWE.

“If something doesn’t work, I blame myself, I don’t blame creative. I do whatever they ask me to, to the best of my ability. If they say talk, I’ll go out there and talk. if they say don’t say a word, I go out there and don’t say a word. I try to do things to make myself interesting with whatever parameters they give you.”

Rowan had been getting more screen time later on in his WWE career thanks to the storyline involving him and the mysterious cage he carried around. This seemed to be a good progression for his career, but the former SmackDown Tag Team Champion explains why he looked at that run as a failure.

“I was upset because I was just coming off a run where I was able to open my mouth, speak, actually have some character. They kind of just swept it all underneath my feet … So, in my head that not working was a failure to me.”
