Monday night during Raw, WWE officially announced the Fabulous Moolah Memorial Battle Royal, but it didn’t take long for fans to let the company know how they felt about the announcement.
Due to Moolah’s dark past, the announcement was met with a very negative reaction from the fans, and the fans even started a petition to have Moolah’s name removed from the match.
Eventually WWE gave in, and it was announced that the match will now be known as the WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal.
PWInsider caught up with Stephanie McMahon at the WrestleMania 35 press conference and they asked her about the controversy. She noted that for better or worse, she loves the fact that the fans expressed their opinions.
“I love that the WWE audience expressed their opinions, whether they are positive or negative. I think that it is our responsibility to listen to our audience and do our best to give them what they want. Clearly, they did not want to name the Women’s Battle Royal after The Fabulous Moolah. We were really proud that they spoke up and we were really happy to make that change.”
When asked if the match will be rebranded, she responded with the following: “For right now, we are sticking with the Wrestlemania Battle Royal Branding.”
