They say that anything can happen in the world of professional wrestling, and last week on Raw, CM Punk won his eight world championship in WWE. After spending months away from the company the Second City Saint made his big return at Raw in Chicago, and he went on to defeat Sami Zayn in the main event to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
CM Punk’s big victory has been a very hot topic among fans as Sami Zayn was originally set to defend his title against Cody Rhodes before The American Nightmare was attacked by Gunther earlier in the show. With little time to prepare for Punk, and only a nine day reign with the title, some fans feel that the Undisputed WWE Championship was stolen from Sami Zayn.
While talking about the controversy surrounding his big victory on What’s Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon, CM Punk said, “Oh, I won the title, clean. I beat that 41 year old youngster fair and square in the middle of the ring.”
Sami Zayn did not appear on last week’s episode of SmackDown as Nick Aldis noted that Sami was off for the night due to a “mental health break” after losing the title. It was confirmed during the show that CM Punk will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam.
It was also confirmed during SmackDown that Sami Zayn will team with Gunther to face CM Punk and Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event. It’s not clear at this point in time if Sami Zayn will be getting a rematch for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
