When you’re thrown out into the ring on live TV sometimes it’s sink or swim, and former WWE star Eva Marie learned that first hand early on during her time with the company. During a segment on Raw in July of 2013, Eva Marie joined the Total Divas cast for an episode of Miz TV and WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler got involved. At one point Eva Marie slapped Lawler across the face, but it wasn’t the most believable slap to say the least.
Eva Marie explained what was going through her mind during the segment in a new YouTube video, and she also revealed that she was laughed at when she returned to the backstage area.
“It goes down in history as one of the worst slaps ever, where when I got back into Gorilla everybody was laughing at me. He tried to sell it the best that he could.”
“I was just supposed to be in the Total Divas crew out on Miz TV. Then all of a sudden right before it’s like, ‘Eva Marie, these are going to be your lines and then you’re going to slap the King,'” she said. “I’m like, ‘huh? But, it’s Jerry Lawler and he’s an older gentleman and he’s you know, Jerry Lawler.’ So I didn’t want to hurt him by slapping him, nobody told me how to properly slap somebody.”
After returning to WWE TV in 2021, Eva Marie was released from the company in November of that same year. There’s currently no word on whether or not she could return someday, but she has said that she’s in constant talks with the company.
