Long Absent WWE Character Possibly Returning To TV

Over the years there have been a number of interesting characters who have appeared on WWE programming, some of which have been portrayed by multiple wrestlers. Now it seems that a long absent character could be returning to WWE with a new wrestler using the gimmick.

PWInsider is reporting that the idea to resurrect the Sin Cara character has been pitched. It’s being said that the pitch is in the early stages, but if WWE does indeed move forward with the plan they would be putting someone new under the mask.

Back in 2011 the Sin Cara character first debuted on WWE programming and was portrayed by Luis Ignacio Urive Alvirde, better known to wrestling fans as Mistico. In July of 2017, WWE announced that Urive had been suspended for 30 days due to a wellness policy violation.

During Urive’s suspension WWE gave the Sin Cara character to Jorge Arriaga (Hunico). Shortly after Arriaga’s version turned heel, and Urive returned as the original Sin Cara, which led to a Sin Cara vs. Sin Cara feud.

In 2013, Urive suffered multiple injuries which resulted in him being sidelined before he eventually wrestled his final match for the company in October of that year. Arriaga then donned the Sin Cara mask once more in December of 2013. He continued to wrestle as Sin Cara for several more years until he was released from WWE in December of 2019.

It remains to be seen if WWE will end up moving forward with this idea, but the fact that it’s being discussed is interesting to say the least.
