In recent years fans have seen some major names retire from in-ring competition as John Cena, Goldberg, AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar have all hung up their boots for good. 2027 is still a few months away, but it looks like plans are already being discussed for another wrestler’s farewell.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select is reporting that there have been rumblings about Rey Mysterio retiring in 2027. A source noted that they didn’t have direct knowledge regarding a date or location for Mysterio’s retirement, but recent chatter at WWE TV has pointed toward Rey Mysterio’s in-ring career coming to an end in 2027.
According to the same source ideas have been discussed regarding how WWE will present Mysterio’s farewell. The feeling among many is that Rey Mysterio will continue to be involved with WWE beyond his in-ring retirement. If that is the case then Mysterio is expected to play a vital role when it comes to developing the next generation of talent in WWE and AAA.
Mysterio has been lucky enough to have a legendary career inside the squared circle which has spanned decades. Following the demise of WCW, Rey Mysterio signed with WWE in 2002.
Throughout the course of Rey Mysterio’s career with WWE he’s managed to win the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, Intercontinental Championship, United States Championship, Tag Team Championship and Cruiserweight Championship. He also won the Royal Rumble in 2006 and officially joined the WWE Hall of Fame when he was inducted in 2023.
