For decades Shawn Michaels was considered by many to be one of the best in-ring performers on the WWE roster. Michaels officially retired after he was defeated by The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26, but he did return to the ring for one match when DX faced the Brothers of Destruction at Crown Jewel in 2018.

Kevin Owens will be facing Randy Orton and Logan Paul in a triple threat match for the United States Championship this year at WrestleMania. However, it seems that Owens originally hoped to face a different opponent as he revealed during a Fanatics Live signing that he’s been trying to get Shawn Michaels to face him at WrestleMania for years, and he made another attempt to convince HBK to get back in the ring again at this year’s big show.

“I keep bothering Shawn Michaels every year to come back. He just won’t. He’s so nice about it every year. This year, I texted him, he didn’t answer me for two months and then when he answered me it was to say, ‘Well, I know I’m a little late, but I just had shoulder surgery, so I don’t think it’s happening.’ You could’ve said no two months ago. You didn’t have to get cut for it.”

As of right now it seems that HBK’s days as in-ring competitor are behind him, but as we’ve seen time and time again in the world of wrestling you can never say never.
