Last year at WrestleMania 38, Roman Reigns made history when he defeated Brock Lesnar in a champion vs. champion match. Since then Roman Reigns has been the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, and there was a lot of talk about whether or not WWE would split the belts in the months that followed his victory over Lesnar.

Ultimately Roman Reigns walked into WrestleMania 39 with both of his titles, but it sounds like WWE at least discussed the idea of splitting up the belts ahead of the Show of Shows.

Fightful Select is reporting that Seth Rollins was considered to go into WrestleMania 39 as champion before WWE made the decision not to split the titles.

Seth Rollins will compete in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship finals at Night of Champions and it’s been rumored that WWE is hesitant to put the belt on him because of his role in Captain America: New World Order. However, that was vehemently denied by WWE higher ups with one saying that Seth’s role is seen as a positive, especially now that Endeavor is on board with WWE.

WWE was made aware of the situation and planned out the sit down interviews that aired on Raw to make up for Seth’s absence. Rollins is reportedly already done filming.
