Last year The Rock was a key figure on the road to WrestleMania and he returned to the ring when he teamed with Roman Reigns to defeat Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. On the Raw after WrestleMania, The Rock teased a match with Cody Rhodes, but there was no follow up on the tease in the months that followed
Over the last few months it’s been reported that WWE is heading into WrestleMania season with the idea being that The Rock won’t be working the show.
Dave Meltzer recently discussed The Rock’s status on Wrestling Observer Radio, and he claimed that The Final Boss wasn’t happy with the reports about his WrestleMania status.
“It would have been November, December when everybody started reporting it and I kind of heard, ‘Oh my God, Dwayne’s mad that everybody’s reporting it. He doesn’t want this out.’ And one person said, ‘I bet he does the show now because he’s so mad that’s everyone’s reporting it.’ I mean, if he’s too busy and he’s got other projects he’s not going to be able to do it. My gut on him is if he didn’t have other projects, he’d do it. The guy loves pro wrestling.”
Rock appeared on the big Raw premiere on Netflix last month, but he gave no indication that he’s looking to step into the ring at WrestleMania, and he also seemingly ended his feud with Cody Rhodes. Later in the show Rock presented Roman Reigns with the ula fala after Reigns defeated Solo Sikoa in a Tribal Combat match.
While plans could change at any time neither WWE nor The Rock have given fans any reason to believe that The People’s Champion will be part of the build to WrestleMania this year.
