The WWE Universe was prepared for Goldberg to beat Kevin Owens at Fastlane and become the WWE Universal Champion. However, the backlash against the booking has been due to the fact that Goldberg defeated Owens in twenty-two seconds after a distraction from Chris Jericho.

A lot of people are unhappy that WWE chose Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar to be for the WWE Universal Title instead of Jericho vs. Owens, which has been building longer. The truth is that WWE had a reason to book the title change to be such a short match before WrestleMania.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is under the impression that WWE officials booked Bill’s title win like they did as a way to protect his health before he performs on the grandest stage of them all. The last thing WWE needs is for Goldberg to suffer a big injury like Seth Rollins.

Some people will continue to complain, but Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens still has the US Title. Hopefully, their feud can bring more prestige to the belt. As far as Goldberg is concerned, WWE officials need to be careful to make sure the WWE Universe doesn’t turn against him heading into WrestleMania 33.
