Kurt Angle has been off WWE TV for a while now, but it seems he was recently in talks for a potential return to the company. Fightful Select reports that Kurt Angle was discussed for a possible return to WWE TV ahead of the Royal Rumble, and Angle was in St. Louis to film content for WWE and meet with company officials. Kurt Angle confirmed the talks with WWE, but he also confirmed that plans for his potential return have been scrapped.
It’s now being reported that Kurt Angle was originally figured into the storyline with RK-Bro and Raw Tag Team Champions American Alpha. There was even talk of naming the Academic Challenge the Three I’s Challenge to play off of Kurt’s old intensity, integrity, and intelligence catchphrase.
There were also reportedly discussions about Kurt Angle possibly working as the special guest referee at the Elimination Chamber event in Saudi Arabia later this month.
Currently there’s no word on why plans for Kurt Angle’s return were nixed. Stay tuned for updates.
