WWE SummerSlam night 1 was action packed and the show continued with night 2 on Sunday. Night 2 kicked off with a big match as Sami Zayn faced off against Finn Balor to determine who would become the number one contender for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Before the match started Nick Aldis made his way out onto the stage and reiterated that he has been reinstated as SmackDown General Manager. He told Sami and Finn that he made the executive decision to add a participant to the match. Gunther’s music then hit and The Ring General made his way down to the ring.
Aldis then paused and said that he’s adding one more name to the match to make it a fatal four way. Kevin Owens’ music then hit and The Prizefighter returned for his first match since March of 2025.
As soon as the bell rang Kevin Owens went after Finn Balor and Gunther as Sami stood in the corner with a stunned look on his face. Owens and Zayn then came face to face and they hugged for a minute before they unloaded on one another.
Owens went to the top and hit a Swanton Bomb off the top onto Sami, Finn and Gunther on the outside. He connected with another Swanton on Gunther inside the ring and Gunther put him in the sleeper before Sami broke it up.
Finn Balor took control of the match as he sent Sami into Gunther in the corner with a dropkick. He then tried to hit the Coup De Grace on Gunther, but Gunther moved and followed up with a powerbomb for a two count.
Gunther locked in a Boston Crab on Finn and Kevin Owens broke it up. After some back and forth Owens went to the top for a Swanton on Sami, but Sami got the knees up. Owens looked hurt after and Sami looked concerned.
Sami backed up and tried for a Helluva Kick, but Gunther grabbed him and locked in the sleeper on Sami as Finn went to the top and hit Coup De Grace on Sami. Balor pinned Sami and Gunther broke up the pin. Gunther locked in the sleeper on Balor and Kevin Owens hit Gunther with a superkick then Balor with a Stunner.
Owens hit Gunther with a Stunner and tried for one on Sami, but Sami countered with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two count. Owens finally got the Stunner on Sami Zayn and pinned him to become number one contender.
