Sometimes even the most certain seeming relationships can fall apart. We’ve seen it happen so many times before in both pro wrestling and entertainment in general. But David Otunga and Jennifer Hudson’s engagement is now officially over.
PEOPLE.com reports Otunga and Hudson are now separated and it’s something the Academy Award-winning Hudson has been attempting for months now. Apparently, things have warranted filing a protective order on her ex-fiance.
The couple were engaged in 2008 and have never officially tied the knot. Even though they’ve never been married, they did celebrate the birth of their first child in 2009.
A rep from Hudson said regarding the situation: “Today, Jennifer requested and received a protective order against her ex-fiancé. Jennifer’s actions are solely taken in the best interest of their son.”
Jennifer Hudson was by Otunga’s side on many occasions when WWE needed to be represented in a public event or red carpet. Having the appeal of Hudson alongside a WWE Superstar looked really good. But it looks like the former Raw announcer will have to start making events without the woman who was made famous for being a Dream Girl.
Otunga’s attorney Tracy Rizzo has since responded to the protection order by saying in a statement to TMZ, “David Otunga has been trying to negotiate the terms of an amicable parenting agreement with Ms. Hudson for several weeks now. However, when it became apparent to Ms. Hudson that Mr. Otunga would be the parent granted residential care of the child, as a result of Mr. Otunga being the child’s primary caregiver while Ms. Hudson pursues her career all over the world, Ms. Hudson decided to file a meritless Petition for Order of Protection in an effort to gain an unfair advantage in the custody dispute.”
Rizzo also went on to say, “As a result of Mr. Otunga’s career in WWE, Ms. Hudson felt that she could give an award-winning performance in court to portray herself as the victim. Mr. Otunga has never abused or harassed Ms. Hudson or their son.”
It looks like things are going to get messy in this situation before they clear up. But let’s hope they can working something out, after all, there is a child in the middle of this set of circumstances.
