WrestleMania season is quickly approaching and it was reported last year that WWE made an offer to Steve Austin for a WrestleMania match. It was reported earlier this week that WWE offered Austin an enormous amount of money to face Roman Reigns which got a lot of people talking.

Dave Meltzer recently addressed WWE’s WrestleMania plans on Wrestling Observer Radio and he claimed that WWE actually offered Austin a match with Brock Lesnar, not Roman Reigns.

“It was Brock Lesnar. It’s not on. It’s been talked about probably for months, because I know when that Brock Lesnar/GUNTHER thing came up, I was told immediately, ‘That’s not happening’, or, ‘That’s not the idea right now’. Maybe it’s gonna happen now.

“But the idea was something that’s a secret. So Austin was that secret. The match is not on and it looks like it’s gonna be Lesnar with Lashley based on the show tonight.”

At this point Steve Austin’s status for WrestleMania 39 has not been confirmed, but one way or another it seems that WWE is hoping for him to work a match with a major opponent. Stay tuned for updates.
