Braun Strowman has been on fire recently after he flipped over an ambulance a few weeks ago and picked up a big win over Roman Reigns at WWE Payback. Strowman is quickly becoming one of the most popular stars on Monday Night Raw, but unfortunately it doesn’t look like he’ll be dominating the show over the next few weeks.
It was recently reported that Braun Strowman is set to undergo surgery to repair his elbow, and it’s estimated that he’ll be missing 4 to 6 weeks of in ring action. This is unfortunate timing for Braun, as WWE had big plans for him moving forward.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the operation is not considered to be major, but WWE won’t know how long Braun will be out until he has the surgery. The company will now be forced to make some major changes to their plans.
Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman have been feuding for months, and they were supposed to face off in the main event at Extreme Rules in a few weeks, but obviously that won’t be happening, and there’s no word at this point on what will be replacing the match.
Braun Strowman was also set to challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title at Great Balls of Fire in July. Due to Strowman’s injury, plans for Brock Lesnar’s next opponent are up in the air right now.
WWE has been building Braun up slowly and it seems to be working, so it’s a shame that he suffered an injury when he appears to be on the cusp of a major push. But injuries create opportunities for other superstars, so it will be interesting to see who gets to step up in his absence. Perhaps Seth Rollins or Finn Balor will get the Universal Title shot they’ve been asking for.
