On the road to WrestleMania 41, The Rock returned and declared that he wanted Cody Rhodes’ soul. The storyline led to John Cena turning heel at Elimination Chamber after Cody declined The Rock’s offer, but it also fell apart quickly as The Rock stepped away from WWE following the show.
During a recent episode of What Do You Wanna Talk About? with Cody Rhodes, The American Nightmare revealed that at one point he actually had an idea to sell his soul to Simone Johnson (formerly known as Ava) instead of her father The Rock.
“When The Final Boss asked me for my soul, I don’t know did you [Simone Johnson] ever tell him this? I never shared it with him. We kept it between us. When he asked me for my soul, I thought, ‘You know what would’ve been funny? Is to relent and give my soul, but not to him.’ This is at a time when you were the NXT General Manager, to you.
I thought that’s got legs. I’ll never say a word again. She’ll speak. We would’ve crushed that. Often people are, ‘He don’t want to be a bad guy.’ I’m open to all things. Whatever is the best, but I thought that would’ve been a real good spin.”
Ava parted ways with WWE earlier this year after she declined to sign a new contract. The Rock has not appeared on WWE programming since Elimination Chamber, but recently teased that he could appear at WrestleMania at some point in the future.
