Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens were once the best of friends, but now they are bitter enemies. Kevin Owens turned his back on Chris Jericho at the Festival of Friendship a few months ago, and at WrestleMania 33 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, Kevin Owens took the United States Championship from Chris Jericho.
In the recent WWE Superstar Shake-up, Kevin Owens made the jump from WWE Monday Night Raw to SmackDown Live. During his first night on the show, AJ Styles was named the new #1 contender for the United States Championship, but it was also announced that if Chris Jericho defeated Owens to win the title at Payback, Jericho would become a member of the SmackDown roster.
Most people expected Kevin Owens to go over at WWE Payback on Sunday night because Jericho is set to take some time off from WWE to tour with his band Fozzy, but that was not what happened.
Chris Jericho got a huge win over Kevin Owens at Payback, and he became a two time United States Champion.
The end of the match came when Kevin Owens went for a pop-up powerbomb, but Chris blocked it when applied the Walls of Jericho. Owens tried to get to the rope, but Jericho dragged him away and made him tap out to win the match.
