Sheamus has been with WWE for twenty years now, but it was reported on Sunday that he is parting ways with the company. WWE reportedly approached Sheamus about a restructured contract, and he swiftly rejected the offer. Naturally with Sheamus moving on from WWE there’s been a lot of speculation regarding where he could end up.
Bryan Alvarez discussed the possibility of Sheamus joining AEW on Wrestling Observer Live, and he noted that people in the company weren’t really keen on the idea of All Elite Wrestling signing a 48 year old former WWE star.
“I did talk to a lot of people today in AEW who were like, ‘Are we really gonna take this guy?’ Let me make this abundantly clear, everybody I talked to, a person, was like, ‘I really like Sheamus. I really like him.’
“But the basic gist of it is, ‘There are so many people under contract, and there are so many people that already can’t even get on TV, and we’re gonna hire another 48 year old?’”
Alvarez went on to emphasize that no one had anything against Sheamus personally, but with New Day likely joining AEW, if the company signed Sheamus as well that would take up three spots on the roster, and people weren’t really thrilled about the idea of other talents who have been there for a long time potentially getting iced out.
Where do you think Sheamus should go following his departure from WWE? Sound off in the comments below.
