Rey Mysterio was originally set to challenge Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship on Raw this week, and Mysterio kicked off the show and delivered a heartfelt promo while his son sat in the front row.

It wasn’t long before Brock Lesnar made his way down to the ring, and he destroyed Mysterio, then pulled his son Dominick from the front row and destroyed him as well.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the angle was done to build to potential match between Brock Lesnar and UFC star Cain Velasquez.

The idea was that Brock Lesnar destroyed WWE’s top Mexican star, and that Cain could be the legitimate Mexican badass hero that would come and get revenge.

Cain has not yet signed with WWE, and obviously if he signs with a different promotion the match won’t happen, but Velasquez vs. Lesnar is the match WWE has in mind.

Cain Velasquez previously defeated Brock Lesnar to win the UFC Heavyweight Title at UFC 21 back in 2010, and it was also recently reported that the key to a contract offer from WWE would be a match against Lesnar.

Velasquez has been wrestling matches in AAA, and he has also reportedly had talks with AAA, AEW and NJPW.
