WWE’s history is full of stories of two best friends finding great success as a team but then something happens and then they aren’t the best of friends any longer. It is a tale as old as time. But eventually there will almost always be one partner saying something akin to “Et tu, Brute?” as their partner stabs them in the back.
It happened to Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho, AJ Styles and Chris Jericho, Christian and Chris Jericho… (Y2J needs to pick better friends). Incidentally all of those rivalries resulted in great matches at WrestleMania 33, 32, and 20 respectively.
Enzo Amore and Big Colin Cassady have taken the WWE main roster by storm since their debut on the Raw after WrestleMania 32. They’ve been a whirlwind of catchphrases and merchandise, but all good things must come to an end. No matter how financially beneficial they might be.
Whether you’re a mark for Enzo and Big Cass or not, The Realest Guys In The Room are certifiably over with the general population, how you doin’? If you can sit there and watch Enzo and Cass take over an arena as every fan in attendance repeats each bonafide word they say and still say they suck, then you might be a cuppa haters. Because the fact of the matter is Enzo and Big Cass are two of the most captivating characters to appear on WWE TV in a long time, and you can’t teach that. There, got all of their catch phrases in one paragraph, and that’s not SAWFT.
Now, we’re going to approach another subject delicately. If Enzo and Big Cass break up imminently, they probably won’t go down as the best tag team in history to have never won a tag team championship. That distinction will most likely always go to The Rockers.
Yes, The Rockers actually did win WWF Tag Team gold on a Saturday Night Main Event taping in 10/30/90, but a ring rope broke and Vince McMahon didn’t want The Rockers’ first WWF Tag Team Championship win to have such a messy look to it so the WWF erased the victory and gave the titles back to the Hart Foundation. Vince had the intention of getting The Rockers an actual title run, but it never happened.
Vince McMahon reportedly likes to use Enzo like a rag-doll, and Colin Cassady appears to be the future star of the group. It’s been mentioned in The Observer numerous times that Enzo and Big Cass’ break up is looming. They teased it a while ago, but incidentally backed off of it on the Road To WrestleMania 33. But, since they lost their recent #1 contender match to Sheamus and Cesaro a break-up might be in line for Enzo and Cass. They didn’t do anything on the Raw of the WWE Superstar Shake-Up other than inaudibly chat with Seth Rollins in the hallway.
If The Rockers taught us anything it’s that you should never party too hard on the road and a team’s break-up can happen out of nowhere. There are no barber shop windows Big Cass could throw Enzo through in WWE today. But we’re sure WWE creative could figure out some extra violent way to end the Enzo and Big Cass partnership if they needed to.
Enzo Amore is the more charismatic of the two, but as previously stated that doesn’t seem to matter to Vince McMahon. He likes to see Enzo fall down and go boom. The only thing that might be able to save Enzo Amore from descending into a jobber category might be incredibly strong fan support. But that’s not always a guaranteed way to get put on top.
If their break-up happens with a double-cross, Enzo is probably taking the Marty Jannetty role in the story. We’re not saying Big Cass will be a Shawn Michaels level performer, it just falls in line with The Rockers analogy that’s been previously established.
After the break-up, Big Cass could turn heel and they could finally bring Carmella over to be his hotter side-kick. Then James Ellsworth can go back to bugging Daniel Bryan for a new chin. After all, we know Big Cass loves having Enzo around, but he’d probably have much better road trips with Carmella in the passenger seat. #JustSayin’.
