It’s been a year of big releases for WWE as some notable names were cut from the roster. Malakai Black was originally released from WWE in 2021, but he made his big return to the company in April of 2025 after finishing up with AEW. Unfortunately for Black he was released once again a year later as it was reported back in April of this year that Malakai Black and his wife Zelina Vega had both been let go.

While talking about his WWE release on ZELVX and CHARLIE GIRL, Malakai Black acknowledged that his last run with the company wasn’t anything special, but also indicated that there were some plans that didn’t come to fruition.

“I can pretend that it didn’t suck, but of course it sucks. It always sucks. In my case, it sucked harder because of the mountains of things that were promised and all the other conversations. And then being presented with this f*****g dud of a year. Despite main events, despite all these things, it was just anything as to what they said that they wanted to do.

To me, it was like, ‘Why did you guys even want this? Because this makes no f*****g sense.’ But that’s besides the point. At some point, I’m sure I’ll talk about it.”

Since becoming a free agent Malakai Black has since returned to the ring as he became the PROGRESS Wrestling World Champion earlier this month when he defeated Cara Noir.
