John Cena officially retired from in-ring competition when he was defeated by Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December of 2025, but he is still very much a part of the WWE family. Earlier this year Cena appeared at Backlash and announced the first ever John Cena Classic tournament, and fans have been waiting for more details ever since.
On Monday night the 17 time champion returned to WWE Raw and he finally shared more details about the highly anticipated tournament. This time around John Cena showed up in shorts and a t-shirt as opposed to the suit he was wearing last time fans saw him in a WWE ring. As Alicia Taylor was doing the introduction Cena invited her into the ring.
Cena told the fans that if you want to make a big announcement, you bring yourself to New York City. He added that he had three major announcements. John revealed that the John Cena Classic will take place December 14th from Disney World in Orlando, Florida. He stated that there would be two episodes of Raw on Monday night for the first time ever, with one show airing from Perth, and the other airing from Orlando.

For the second announcement Cena revealed the John Cena Classic Championship belt. He then stated that the power to vote in the tournament would be held in Club WWE.
The third announcement was regarding who will be competing in the tournament, and he introduced Cody Rhodes as the first ever invitee. Cena told Cody that he’s the first invitee, but he’s heading to NXT, more episodes of Raw, and Survivor Series to scout more talent.
John told Cody that he’s carrying the QB1 moniker better than he ever could. They hugged and Orton’s music hit. John Cena left and he tipped his hat to Orton on his way out.
