Over the last few months WWE pay cuts have become a very hot topic as a number of names have parted ways with the company after being asked to restructure their contracts. Sami Zayn’s name has come up due to rumors that he accepted a pay cut, and Zayn potentially taking a pay cut became a talking point once again recently as the topic was discussed on Kevin Nash’s podcast.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Sami Zayn’s name was brought up to him in regard to wrestlers taking a pay cut, but it was never confirmed 100 percent.
Meltzer went on to add that based on what WWE told him directly when it came to the pay cuts, their version was that everyone who was asked to take a pay cut were going to be cut because creative didn’t have anything for them. The idea was the company would give them a new deal with a new rate and see if something popped up.
Sami Zayn is a guy who is always used unlike The New Day and Sheamus who weren’t being used when they were asked to take a pay cut. However, Meltzer also added that this is not the first, or fifth time Zayn’s name has come up in regard to the pay cut situation.
Earlier this week Sami Zayn’s Undisputed WWE Championship reign came to an end when CM Punk returned to Raw and defeated Zayn to win the title. Punk is expected to appear on WWE SmackDown tonight.
