CM Punk has been off TV since April and since then there’s been a lot of speculation regarding Punk’s status with WWE. The Second City Saint last wrestled when he dropped the World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, and he last appeared on TV on the Raw after WrestleMania.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that there have been minor issues between CM Punk and WWE which started with Punk losing the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42.
It’s also being reported that CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship had been planned for the SummerSlam card for some time, reportedly before Rhea Ripley suffered her injury.
The belief is that CM Punk will be returning on the July 6th episode of Monday Night Raw. Sami Zayn is set to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes during the show which has led to speculation that Punk could play a part in that match.
It’s also being reported that if WWE ends up going with CM Punk vs. Sami Zayn at SummerSlam then it was a last minute change of plans. If WWE ends up doing CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam with no title involved then it was also a last minute change.
Prior to the 25% off sale that started on July 1st, WWE had sold 23,672 tickets for the first night of SummerSlam and 23,227 out for the second night of the event.
