Last weekend Sami Zayn sent shockwaves throughout the wrestling world when he pinned Cody Rhodes to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion. Since then Zayn’s win has been a hot topic on social media, and it sounds like it’s also been a hot topic behind the scenes in WWE.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reports that Sami Zayn’s Undisputed WWE Championship win at Night of Champions caught many in the company off guard, including people in the marketing department.
As of July 1st the WWE marketing department had yet to receive instructions to update key art for the upcoming SummerSlam PLE to reflect Sami Zayn being the Undisputed WWE Champion. A source noted that Zayn’s title win was handled on a strict “need to know” basis across multiple departments.
One employee reportedly described the situation as “worrisome” because the lack of advance notice for a major change like that could make their jobs more difficult if WWE keeping things like that a secret becomes the norm.
