John Cena retired from in-ring competition back in December when he was defeated by Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event, but the former world champion has still been making appearances on WWE programming.
Cena acted as the host for WrestleMania 42, and he recently appeared at Backlash to reveal a new event called the John Cena Classic. According to Cena, NXT stars will face off against main roster stars at the John Cena Classic, and fans will vote to decide the winner of the event regardless of who wins the matches.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select is reporting that as of today neither a date nor a venue have been nailed down for the event. However, one source noted that an early December time frame would make logistical sense with WWE’s calendar, and it would line up with the one year anniversary of Cena’s final match.
A source also added that Netflix expressed interest in hosting the event on their platform, but those details have not been finalized. It’s also being said that very little about the concept for the John Cena Classic has been locked in at this stage.
Stay tuned for updates.
