Brock Lesnar was originally set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at the recent Day 1 pay-per-view, but unfortunately Roman was pulled from the show after he tested positive for COVID-19. The Beast was then added to the main event, and when it was all said and done he won the match and walked away with the WWE Championship.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter pointed out that Brock Lesnar’s current WWE Championship reign marks a 20 year span from when he first won the title in 2002. With his recent WWE Title win Brock Lesnar breaks Hulk Hogan’s previous record which spanned 18 years between his first and last WWE Title win (1984 to 2002) and Bob Backlund’s 17 year record (1974 to 1994).
It was also noted that WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg had a 22 year span between his first and most recent world title win, but the wins were with two different titles the WCW Title win and the WWE Universal Title (1998 to 2020).
Brock Lesnar is currently set to defend the WWE Championship against Bobby Lashley at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Saturday, January 29th. Stay tuned for updates.
