There have been some shocking WWE departures in recent weeks and over the weekend it was reported that The New Day are no longer with WWE. According to reports the duo were asked to restructure their deals with the company, and they declined to do so.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have both since issued statements confirming that they are done with WWE, and they are looking ahead to the next chapter of their respective careers.
Throughout his WWE career Xavier Woods was also the face of the UpUpDownDown YouTube channel, and it looks like WWE may still want him to be associated with the project.
During a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez noted that WWE is trying to retain Woods with a deal similar to the one Tyler Breeze has where he would be paid to do stuff with the company’s video game projects.
“I’ve heard this from a lot, a lot, a lot of people this weekend, that I do believe that WWE is trying retain Woods with, as it was referred to repeatedly, ‘the Tyler Breeze deal.’ Which is basically he gets paid money to do stuff for the video game.
“I don’t know if he will accept that offer. I don’t know what’s going on in his head, but he might. So, it is not a foregone conclusion that both of the New Day are going to AEW. It’s likely going to happen I would say, but there are things being done where WWE is trying to retain him for other things.”
At this point in time it’s not clear what Woods and Kofi’s next move will be, but it has been reported that there’s excitement in AEW regarding the possibility of the former tag team champions joining the company.
