Randy Orton punched his ticket to WrestleMania when he won the men’s Elimination Chamber match back in February. On Saturday night Orton stepped up to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship in the night 1 main event, and it was Rhodes who picked up the win to retain the title.
Bodyslam is reporting that Randy Orton was originally planned to win the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42. However, the decision was changed over the last few weeks.
According to the report WWE knew that the feud was going to continue after WrestleMania, which is why the company did a post-match angle to move things along and didn’t pull the trigger on a Randy Orton title win.
After Rhodes defeated Randy Orton, The Viper lost it as he hit Cody with the Undisputed WWE Championship and connected with the punt kick on Rhodes as the show went off the air.
During the match Cody Rhodes suffered an eye injury and WWE recently confirmed that The American Nightmare is not cleared to compete, and there’s no timetable for his return to in-ring competition. Rhodes was originally scheduled to appear at WWE World on Sunday, but his appearances were canceled due to the injury.
Stay tuned for updates.
