A good gimmick can go a long way in the world of professional wrestling, and sometimes WWE will bring back elements from the past to use for current Superstars. Lacey Evans has been seemingly channeling Sgt. Slaughter in recent months and last week on SmackDown she wore a drill instructor uniform as she made her way to the ring to face Zelina Vega in a Money in the Bank qualifying match.

The outfit did not go over well with Sgt. Slaughter’s daughter who called Lacey Evans out on Twitter, and Sgt. Slaughter also chimed in when he warned Evans about getting on his daughter’s bad side.

Now WrestleVotes has added some more context to the situation with a report noting that WWE asked Sgt. Slaughter to appear in vignettes for Lacey’s return earlier this year. It was noted that the idea was Sgt. Slaughter would pass down the Cobra Clutch, but Slaughter declined to be a part the vignettes.

WWE has been trying to make the military gimmick work for Lacey Evans for some time now, but it doesn’t seem that this current iteration is winning people over the way the company might have hoped it would.
