Most WWE Superstars are constantly chasing championship gold and in October of 2022 fans saw Mustafa Ali attack Seth Rollins on Raw as he was pursuing the United States Championship. It seemed that WWE was setting up a Seth Rollins vs. Mustafa Ali feud, but ultimately things went in a different direction.

Mustafa Ali recently spoke to Metro about the plan for the feud and he also discussed why it went sideways. According to Ali the company pulled back on plans for the feud because Seth Rollins was receiving a positive reaction from the fans so WWE decided to let it play out.

“What I think happened was, I was this babyface that wasn’t fully developed, so you have to reintroduce me as this contender. Even though Seth was this bad guy champion, he was blurring the lines where the fans were really starting to sing his song, and they had to make a decision. Do we lean into this, or does he commit to being the bad guy?”

“The matches would have been incredible, but I feel like they pulled back on it because they’re saying, “Well let’s see what’s happening with Seth first”. What happened, happened.”

“Good for him! He’s standing in Paris for 12 minutes while people are singing his song so I’m glad for him. Hopefully we’ll get to it again someday. But yeah, I’m good with that, I’m ok with that.”

Mustafa Ali and Seth Rollins will both have a chance to win gold at Night of Champions as Ali will be challenging Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship, and Rollins will be facing off against AJ Styles in the finals of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament.
